Breakthrough reached in disability dispute PDF Print E-mail

Disability Services workers in southern Tasmania appear to have reached a compromise with the State Government after more than a month of industrial action.

Workers went on strike last week citing overwork and stress.

At a meeting with unions yesterday, Health and Human Services Minister David Llewellyn offered more positions for the sector.

Tom Lynch from the Community and Public Sector Union says members in the south have endorsed the offer.

"We at least have a short and medium term solution to the crisis in Disability Services," he said.

"They've offered some additional positions, on the ground positions, that will help deliver services to the disabled in the community and they've also met commitments making sure vacancies are filled and that there is backfilling when people are away on leave or extended leave."
