Disability services employees to strike PDF Print E-mail

Industrial action within Tasmania's disability services is being stepped up.

Employees have been taking action for the past month, protesting against overwork.

So far the action has meant not taking on any new cases and not working overtime, but on Friday 120 workers will go on strike.

Workers will also protest outside the offices of Health and Human Services Minister David Llewellyn.

Tom Lynch from the Community and Public Sector Union says the Government has not listened to the employees' concerns.

"They have already put to the department in writing what they need," Mr Lynch said.

"They need an additional service coordination team, additional staff in all three regions to be able to deal with the huge case load.

"There's something like a thousand Tasmanian disabled people who are unable to get the service from the Tasmanian public sector because the resources are not there."

The union says their action will continue if demands are not met.
